About This Website
Making decisions about health care can be difficult. Finding information can be both challenging and overwhelming. That's why this website was created to help Iowans find answers that will lead to informed health care choices.
About IHA
The Iowa Hospital Association is a voluntary membership organization representing hospital and health system interests to business, government and consumer audiences. All of Iowa's 118 community hospitals are IHA members. More information about IHA is available at IHA Website and on the IHA blog.
Quality/Patient Safety Information
The Iowa Healthcare Collaborative (IHC) is a provider-led and patient-focused nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting a culture of continuous improvement in health care. Through IHC's efforts, Iowans are provided with a continuously updated "Iowa Report" that provides hospital-specific data related to health care quality and patient safety.
Hospital Economic Impact
Hospitals provide thousands of jobs in Iowa and pump billions of dollars into the state economy. In most Iowa counties, hospitals are among the largest employers. And these are well-paying jobs that attract highly educated employees and their families to communities all over Iowa, helping the state's growth and supporting Iowa quality of life.
Infection Information
A national priority in which the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative (IHC) has been an active partner with Iowa hospitals has been in the area of reducing infections. IHC's release of health care-associated infections (HAI) information represents the first time hospital-specific infection rates are available for Iowans regarding a prominent set of nationally important HAI measures tracked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Iowa Health Care Data (Profiles)
The Iowa Hospital Association provides a continuously updated website with in-depth information and data about Iowa hospital and health system organization, utilization, personnel, finance, economics, and demographics. Profiles also includes hospital and health system specific detailed data in PDF format that can be easily saved or shared.
Iowa Hospital Charges Compare
This website allows health care consumers to review basic, hospital-specific information about services and charges and then compare information from multiple hospitals. Charges Compare provides information about two categories of services: inpatient services (for which the patient is admitted to the hospital) and outpatient services, such as outpatient surgery and invasive diagnostic procedures.
Hospital Community Benefit
Beyond their doors and campuses, Iowa hospitals are committed to serving their communities in countless ways. Offering immunizations, screenings, counseling, education and many more programs and services at little and often no cost, Iowa hospitals reach out to meet each community's unique needs.
In addition, Iowa hospitals serve struggling Iowans through charity care programs. Each year, millions of dollars are spent to ensure Iowans in need do not go without important health care services.
Medicare Hospital Compare
The Hospital Compare website, maintained by federal administrators who oversee the Medicare program, displays rates for process of care measures that show whether or not hospitals provide some of the care that is recommended for patients being treated for a heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, asthma (children only) or patients having surgery.
Hospitals voluntarily submit data from medical records about the treatments their patients receive for these conditions. The data include patients with Medicare, those enrolled in Medicare health plans and those who don't have Medicare.
Iowa Hospital Jobs
Looking for a job in health care? This is a great place to start. New jobs at Iowa hospitals are posted to this website every day and job seekers can post their resumes. Users can search for specific positions, certain hospitals or communities or just look for the latest postings.
